Yes. Anonymous visitors can convert up to 20 pages per document, 3 times per day without any account. Free accounts (requires sign-up) get 50 pages and 10 conversions per day. Both free tiers include a subtle watermark. Upgrade to Starter ($5/mo) to remove it.

What Markdown syntax is supported?

We support all CommonMark elements: headings (H1-H6), paragraphs, bold, italic, strikethrough, unordered and ordered lists, task lists (checkboxes), tables, fenced code blocks with syntax highlighting, inline code, blockquotes, horizontal rules, links, and images. HTML within Markdown is sanitized for security.

Editorial (navy + emerald, DM Serif Display headings) — designed for strategy docs, playbooks, and pitch materials. Corporate (royal blue, Inter Bold) — for business reports, memos, board documents. Technical (near-black + terminal orange, JetBrains Mono) — for developer docs, RFCs, API guides. Minimal (pure black & white, EB Garamond) — for essays, academic papers, and long-form writing.

Can I set the theme from my Markdown file?

Yes. Add a YAML front-matter block at the top of your Markdown: --- theme: technical --- (or editorial, corporate, minimal). The UI theme picker overrides this if you select one manually. Front-matter also accepts title, subtitle, eyebrow, and badge fields for the cover page.

What is the watermark and how do I remove it?

Free and anonymous tier PDFs include two subtle watermark layers: a diagonal 'mdfileconverter.com' text overlay at 8% opacity across each page, and a footer line crediting the tool. The watermark is intentionally subtle — body text remains fully legible. Upgrade to Starter ($5/mo) or higher to generate watermark-free PDFs.

How large can my Markdown file be?

The request body limit is 10 MB for all plans (well above any realistic single document). Premium batch uploads accept up to 20 MB per file. For very long documents, conversion time scales roughly linearly — a 100-page document typically renders in under 5 seconds.

Is my content private?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Your Markdown is transmitted over HTTPS and processed server-side. We do not log document content. Ephemeral PDFs (all plans except Premium) are stored on local disk for up to 1 hour then automatically deleted by a scheduled cleanup job. Premium PDFs are stored encrypted at rest on Cloudflare R2.

Can I use mdfileconverter.com in my own application via API?

An API tier is planned for a future release. For now, the /api/convert endpoint is rate-limited and requires the watermark flag. If you have a commercial integration need, contact us at hello@mdfileconverter.com and we can discuss a custom arrangement.

The full UI and marketing content is available in 10 languages: English, Portuguese (BR), Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Russian, and Korean. Each language also has a localized URL slug for the converter page (e.g. /pt-br/conversor-md-para-pdf).

How do I get a cover page on my PDF?

On the converter page, expand the 'Cover metadata' panel and fill in the Title, Subtitle, Eyebrow label, and Badge fields. All fields are optional — leave them blank to skip the cover. You can also set these in your Markdown front-matter. The cover uses the selected theme's color palette and typography.
